Intensified processes are not only more energy efficient and smaller, but also more controllable and safer to operate and require less capital and operating cost.

Process intensification usually leads to multifunctional and compact pieces of equipment with yields that are orders of magnitude higher than the conventional designs. However, not every process can be intensified.
